A Tribute to Japanese Art and Fashion

We have a special appreciation for Japanese Art and Fashion both for their extreme level of creativity and our connection to PechaKucha – Japanese for The Sound of Conversation (a non-profit organization founded and Headquartered in Tokyo). There have been a series of Asia After Dark events at The Freer and Sackler Galleries; however, this was a special tribute to Japan and was quite an unexpected experience. Accompanied by Yoko Anazawa of The Embassy of Japan, we mingled among the most innovative Japanese Cosplay (Costume Play) characters, took in beautiful Japanese and Asian Art, contributed to a group poetry project and danced to music by the legendary DJ Steve Aoki. The Gallery was completely transformed when the DJ began spinning and it went from a proper mixing and mingling Art affair to a hard core dance party – definitely not your every day at The Freer.

We have posted pictures of some of the stand out Cosplay Characters from the evening. We especially loved the couple wearing Cherry and Sushi hats! Looking forward to the next Asia After Dark event…
